Bryan's Book Launches Friday August 10th!

YES! Per his latest MySpace Bulletin:

Friday, August 10th, fans of spoken word, art and poetry are invited to the exciting and historic release celebration of On The Other Side Of The Eye, the new book by Laotian American poet Bryan Thao Worra.

"A great guy and a great friend, Bryan is one of the most dedicated and hardest working people I know when it comes to working on and promoting his career.

That's damn respectable.

He's getting ahead because he works at it.

And he doesn't stop there: he helps other artists, and does not limit his efforts to just SouthEast Asians or adoptees or poets. That's damn respectable, too."
~Cynthia Lee

At the book launch

Acclaimed writers reading include award-winning Vietnamese American spoken word artist Bao Phi, Hmong American writers Ka Vang and Katie Vang and Filipina American poet Barbara Jane Reyes, author of Gravities of Center and Poeta en San Francisco.

Hmong American artist and educator Seexeng Lee is displaying his paintings and visual art, while spoken word artist and scholar Juliana Pegues is the MC. It will be an extraordinary event!

This free evening is open to everyone and features snacks and beverages, door prizes, author signings and other entertainment.

On The Other Side Of The Eye is published by Sam's Dot Publishing and is the first full-length collection of Laotian American speculative poetry in the United States. The collection spans 17 years of Thao Worra's creative work and appearances in over 60 publications internationally.

This release party for On The Other Side of the Eye is August 10th at the Loft Literary Center at 1011 Washington Avenue South in Minneapolis.

The doors open at 6:30 PM and the main program begins at 7 PM until 9 PM.

Count-down, Major Tom! . . . for your viewing pleasure

Thanks to a friend, I am now posting Peter Schilling's most excellent song, courtesy of a YouTube video:

And thanks to my fellow Browncoats over at MN Firefly, here's a fun podcast link from The Signal which includes a fantastic Captain Mal filk by the group Possible Oscar on their new album Wrath of Con! Sorry, folks, the album's for sale, and there are no current links to a free listen out there, so you'll just have to go out and buy a copy. The link above is their MySpace page, and it's got a ton of great info on their music and performances.

Give it up for a local Mpls group who just did a great performance at the Harmonic Convergence stage at Minnesota's own CONvergence, our annual everything-SF convention!

And if At the Con sounds just a bit familiar. . then you're a Fan, and probably had the same feeling when you realized you were Super-Otaku after watching Otaku No Video. (smirk)

Whoo-hoo!

I'll get your sushi - and footnotes, to boot!

Searching Snopes to see if Alton Brown's silly statement that sushi nori is not actually pressed seaweed but instead dried and pressed algae (yeah, right!), I found this, instead. Funny!

Don't forget to follow the links to the New York Times article!

The task is done!

My friend and some friends down Texas-way all completed The Great Walk Challenge! Congratulations all around, and may pedometers be praised!

Now if only I can find mine again. . . . ;)

How to Win a Fight With a Conservative is the ultimate survival guide for political arguments

My Liberal Identity:

You are an Eco-Avenger, also known as an environmentalist or tree hugger. You believe in saving the planet from the clutches of air-fouling, oil-drilling, earth-raping conservative fossil fools.
